The journey of writing my book
For many years, I focused on being the best mother I could possibly be – to provide, protect and guide my children. Since my children gained independence, I seized what I’d refer to as a “God-given” second chance. Given that English is my second language, I’ve faced and had to overcome many obstacles and challenges in completing this book. Countless times, I stopped writing because of my fear of language barriers and my English not being good enough. But I soon realized that my mission and purpose far outweighed my lingering fears. Throughout the journey of writing The Oriental Bouquet, little did I know that I was also writing the next chapter of my new life.
The reason I write The Oriental Bouquet
I truly hope you enjoy The Oriental Bouquet – a story about female empowerment, cultural acclimation and survival. It’s a book that covers themes of immigration, cultural mishaps, forgiveness, courage, gratitude and self-love. It’s also a series of fables – each chapter a story unto itself. One of the poignant lessons The Oriental Bouquet highlights is that everyone is deserving of a second chance.
Inspired by The Oriental Bouquet
I sincerely hope my book will inspire and encourage you to understand that it’s not where we come from, but where we are heading that matters. It’s not about years in life, but life in years. It’s not what we have, but rather, what we choose to give. It’s not the situation, but the extent of our determination that can power us through. It’s not about the setback, but rather, possessing the courage of resilience and persistence to come back. And last, but not least, it’s not how we start, but how we choose to finish that matters. ~Love, Kitty Liu
